Writing begins with early mark making fun

Mark making is not just pencils and paper! Get children outside with a box of chunky chalks and get them doodling. Large sheets of wallpaper are ideal or children can get just as much fun doodling on the garden path, a bonus rainy night washes it all away too! Using toys such as trains, cars, dinosaurs or animals children can use their imagination to chalk or draw tracks, stations, pens, arrows, signs and pathways the options are endless.

This activity develops fine and gross motor skills and provides the opportunity for making upward, downward, clockwise, anti-clockwise marks which are all valuable pre-writing skills.
