The Humble Cardboard Box
Train, racing car, café, rocket, fairy tale castle…..there’s oodles of open ended fun from just a simple recycled cardboard box. Let the imagination of little ones run wild as they construct, decorate with the help of a few markers and play in their ‘small world’ creation. The box like other simple items that promote ‘free play’ develop fine and gross motor skills (referred to in previous posts) and aid in cognitive and language development.
Next time you visit the library check out ‘Whatever Next!’ by Jill Murphy, it tells the delightful tale of a teddy bear who visits the moon and back before bathtime in a rocket (cardboard box), wearing a space helmet (colander) and space boots (wellies).
