Mark Making Matters

Early mark making can go beyond pens, pencils, felt pens, chalk and crayons. Children can make marks using paint brushes with buckets of water or paints, trays of sand with feathers or fingers, squeezy bottles filled with water or paint. Children can have fun making  a range of marks with the added bonus for adults that they are engaged in excellent pre-writing activities.

This early mark making play can be given a purpose such as big chalks can be used by children to create play settings outside by drawing train tracks, roads etc.
