Many Hands Make Light Work
In busy classrooms across the country tidying up at the end of a session can be a big job. It is a task that can be quickly and easily accomplished if all children participate. To prepare children for this aspect of school life parents can actively encourage their children to tidy up at home after playing. Teachers have various systems that they use to encourage children to help including playing a piece of tidy up music such as 'Whistle whilst you work', using a sand timer and making it part of a challenge or putting children into teams for tidying. Some of these ideas can be used by parents in the home. Make it easy for children by having systems in place so that they know where to put their various toys. Children who are used to tidying up at home like the familiarity of this activity in the classroom and it can help them settle into the life of a busy classroom and often results in lots of praise!
